USA RELEASE: UMATILLA TRIBE EXPANDS REWARD PROGRAM - 22 April 2004

The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) has expanded the scope of two reward programs implemented last December at its Mission Market grocery and Arrowhead Travel Plaza convenience stores. The programs are based on Visible Results USA's revolutionary GraphiCard T card technology and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

Both locations initially promoted a general "Rewards on the Rez" program for all consumers, while a "Professional Driver Rewards" program for truck drivers was also offered at Arrowhead Travel Plaza. However, customer demand recently spurred a rollout of the truck driver program to Mission Market as well.

"We deployed these programs to encourage local residents to shop at the stores, which are located right on the Umatilla Indian Reservation, instead of leaving to make purchases in the neighboring town," said Don Nelson, general manager, Arrowhead Travel Plaza. "Requests to accept 'Professional Driver Rewards' and 'Rewards on the Rez' across the board, coupled with significant interest and enrollment in the two programs, demonstrate that our solution is working."

With the patented Visible Results technology, program members' cards are inserted into a smart point-of-sale terminal during each sales transaction. A cutting-edge thermo-chromic process enables the front of the card to display points garnered through the most recent purchase, along with other personalized data designed to pique consumers' interest. Such data-which is customized for each client-can include highly targeted offers, details of special promotions and sales, advertising messages, particulars of instant win games, and more.

A rewriteable magnetic strip incorporated into the back of the card stores specific data about transactions as they occur. It also enables the back of the card to be rewritten every time it is presented, turning it into a self-contained database that eliminates extensive, costly systems integration while encouraging repeated use and customer loyalty.

"I like that my customers get immediate information and can see updated points after each visit," Nelson noted. He added that both programs feature increasing rewards levels, with points earned at a rate of 12 per dollar spent in the stores and "Professional Driver Rewards" members receiving one bonus point for each gallon of diesel fuel purchased. Points earned are redeemed for in-store credit. Customers have a choice of redeeming points at each reward level or continuing to accrue them until a desired reward level is reached.
